Why TOPC exists
About Us
Practical relief, not parenting advice.
The reason behind it
Built by a parent who gets it.
The Overwhelmed Parent Co. didn't start as a grand business plan. It started with being a single parent, working full-time, managing a home and realising just how much of everyday life can sit on one person's shoulders.
There are all these expectations that we're supposed to be able to do everything. But I don't think I'm a failure — or should be embarrassed — if I say, “I know I'm the parent... but I have nothing left in me to decide what we're having for dinner,” or “I don't have the energy to do the washing and dishes for the tenth time this week!”
I'm sure plenty of you can relate to that in one way or another.
And yes, the cost of living is high and money can be tight. Hiring help isn't something everyone can do all the time. But if I can budget for a cleaner to come just once a month and take something off my plate? That sounds heavenly.
I know what it's like to be tired, to have a never-ending list of things that need doing (and then doing again ... and again), and to wish there were an easier way to find someone local who could simply take one of those things off the list this week.
And I didn't want to find just anyone. I wanted to know who other locals had actually used and would recommend before deciding who I trusted to help me.
Finding help shouldn't be another job.
Local businesses can be scattered across Google results, Facebook groups and repeated recommendation posts that disappear down a feed almost as quickly as they're posted. At the same time, great local businesses can miss out simply because they didn't happen to see a “Can anyone recommend...?” post at the right moment.
That's where The Overwhelmed Parent Co. came from: one calm, practical place where parents can find local help — and where good local businesses have a better chance of being found.
What we're trying to make easier
Less hunting. More handing things over.
Find genuinely local help
Search by the practical job you need done, where you live and how you want that help delivered.
See community recommendations
Local parents can recommend businesses they've personally used and loved, adding community experience to the factual listing.
Help local businesses be seen
Good businesses shouldn't disappear because they missed a social post or got buried among broad search results.
What you won't find here
No perfectionism required.
No lectures about becoming a better parent.
No assumption that you should somehow fit more into your day.
No prize for doing absolutely everything yourself.
We're much more interested in making the load a little lighter.
Local first
Starting close to home.
TOPC is beginning with Ipswich and Brisbane West so the directory can be genuinely useful and local rather than enormous for the sake of it.
We'll grow carefully, keeping practical discovery, community recommendations and useful local information at the centre of it.
One less thing to figure out
What could you hand over?
Browse local help for the jobs, errands and everyday things that don't magically disappear when you're tired.
